Just two days ago, I was able to speak to The Decline of Civilization, Diesel and John Heidenreich, the former
World Tag Team Champions, who are decidedly still upset over their injuries and how they were obtained. I met
the two of them inside of Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., where both
men still have not been released since their brutal attack on Nov. 21, 2008. According to Diesel, his right knee, injured at the hands of
The Triple Threat in early March, was re-injured during the attack, while Heidenreich has suffered from brain-swelling and post-concussion symptoms. When asked about who might have done this, neither
man was able to pull any punches.
Diesel: "Who attacked us!?"
Heidenreich: "It was those bastards ..."
Diesel: "Page and Storm."
When asked if they were sure if it was Triple Threat members Diamond Dallas Page and
Lance Storm who attacked them, Diesel said that he was certain, although he
didn't get an eye on the attackers.
Diesel: "It had to have been them. Page and Storm knew that we were after their tag belts."
Heidenreich agreed.
Heidenreich: "What did you expect from The Triple Threat? We were clearly the top challengers
to those belts so why not eliminate the competition?"
It should be noted that later on that fateful November evening, following their
suspected attack on The DoC, Page and Storm dropped the World Tag Team
Championship to the Raven in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Did the Raven know about the attack? Was his
taking of the titles some measure of extracting revenge?
Diesel: "We never talked about that aspect of it. The Raven didn't want to know who attacked us."
Heidenreich: "He seemed more concerned about The New Breed's insurance, which we can't blame him for."
Diesel: "I'm sure he got killed when the bill finally came in. Hell, we're not even out of the hospital yet."
Asked about their extended stay in the hospital, through Christmas and New Year's, neither had much of a response. It seemed that their attention
remained preoccupied with Page and Storm.
Diesel: "When this first happened ... I thought they just wanted to end our careers
-- of which they nearly succeeded. Now, I ... no, we, know the truth."
Heidenreich: "Lance Storm became president of the PWF the week before ..."
Diesel: "And he wanted to rid the PWF of The New Breed. It started with us months ago, and it continues at
Aggression on pay-per-view."
Both members of The DoC said that they've been trying to get cleared to leave the hospital but haven't been able to get the doctor's note that is needed to leave and to rejoin the PWF ranks.
Diesel: "I don't want to spread any rumors, but I hear that Storm has been calling the hospital to check on our conditions."
Heidenreich: "It's as if he's telling the hospital to keep us here ..."
Diesel:
"Without guests, without good food ..."
Heidenreich: "WITHOUT CABLE!"
Diesel: "We don't even get to watch Wargames."
When told that Wargames is on free-television thanks to the FOX network, Diesel threw his bedpan at Heidenreich, cursing him out,
to which Heidenreich responded that he didn't even know how to work one of the fancy-pants American remotes. At that time, a nurse ushered me away so that they could take part in a hospital-wide nap session. As I left, Diesel shouted to me that he wanted the world to know that
The Triple Threat was not to be trusted and that The DoC would do whatever it took to be at
Aggression.
So there you have it -- the unknown whereabouts of The Decline of Civilization
are now known. What does this mean for the big Texas Tornado Rules main event at
Aggression? Perhaps we will get more answers when Wargames comes to Oakland,
Calif., this Monday, ONLY on the FOX network -- channel 6 on all Charter
Communications systems in the central Massachusetts area.
