Does Mr. Perfect stand alone?
Jan. 30, 2006
ThePWF.com recently conducted a short phone interview with five-time World Champion Mr. Perfect. The 2005 Wrestler of the Year, 2006 King of the Ring, and reigning Intercontinental Champion spoke about the No. 1 contendership, his upcoming title defense against
Darkness, his long-time Perfect Team ally Excellence, and -- of course -- the New Breed.
ThePWF.com: We'll start with the questions surrounding the No. 1 contendership. Why do you feel that you deserve to be chosen by Mr. Bischoff to face John Cena at
Aggression over a pair of former PWF Champions in Lance Storm and Shawn Michaels?
Mr. Perfect: Is this a serious question?
ThePWF.com: It is.
Mr. Perfect: Well, the answer's quite obvious, and, to be honest, I'm a little stunned you Internet nerds aren't a little more bright about the sport that employs you. Shawn Michaels -- I don't have a lot of problems with the Heartbreak Kid, other than him not realizing that it's Mr. Perfect's time, now and forever. Michaels also doesn't get that his time, however brief it might have been, is in the rear-view mirror now. It's back there with Rated R, with James Ace, with Del Wilkes, with all of that. Basically, it's over. He needs to move on, to be honest, and if he won't make that trip on his own, then Mr. Perfect will get him moving in the right direction.
ThePWF.com: What about Lance Storm? You and he are definitely no strangers in the ring, and you certainly respect his ability.
Mr. Perfect: You know, I do. I respect Shawn Michaels' ability, as well,
but that's not the point. What is the point, though, is that Lance Storm has gotten into the ring with Mr. Perfect twice, both times with huge stakes. Once, for the Intercontinental Championship, and the other was obviously just a couple of weeks ago in the finals of the King of the Ring
Tournament. What I'm saying is ... Shawn Michaels and Lance Storm are very, very good. But, when you're talking about Mr. Perfect, you're talking about the very best, you're talking about someone who's always two steps quicker and four moves ahead. I take world-class athletes like Lance Storm, and I turn them into two-time losers. It's as simple as that. To me, Eric Bischoff's decision is easy. I haven't been pinned in a PWF ring, I haven't submitted in a PWF ring -- I haven't lost, period. The perfect record, the perfect wrestler -- I deserve to put Cena down, once and for all. I deserve to be the PWF Champion. There is no doubt.
ThePWF.com: This upcoming Wednesday on Wargames, you face Darkness for the Intercontinental title. A man of that size has to be considered a threat, even to you.
Mr. Perfect: It'd be something if that were true, but it's not. He'll
show up, he'll have big plans of taking the Intercontinental title away from me
-- something seemingly the entire PWF roster has tried to do and failed -- but
it won't happen. To be honest, Darkness is the last thing on my mind right now.
ThePWF.com: That's certainly understandable. There's a lot going on in the PWF at this time, specifically regarding the Perfect Team and the New Breed. They have made no secret of the fact that they look to destroy you, Excellence, Chris Jericho -- basically the entire Perfect Team. That's their plan. With all due respect, it may have been impossible for them to pick a better time.
Mr. Perfect: Yeah, so they have the numbers on us right now. It's not a concern to me. Ex and Bischoff got their thing, which is keeping the Franchise Player away. As for Chris Jericho, believe me, he'd do anything to be able to magically heal and be back here for
Wargames to stand beside me in any "war" that may be going on. It's just not in the cards right now. Even he can't make it happen.
ThePWF.com: What's the estimated return-date for Chris Jericho? Was it as serious an injury as the rumors say?
Mr. Perfect: Chris Jericho's injury-status is none of anyone's business. That information is staying in-house. He'll be back as soon as he can. That's all you or anyone else really needs to know.
ThePWF.com: With all due respect to you, Mr. Perfect, you appear to be
going into battle against the New Breed, well, alone. With Excellence apparently
refusing a return and with Jericho out with injury, you are alone. Is that not the case? And, if it is, doesn't that concern you?
Mr. Perfect: Does it concern me? Obviously, even as the greatest professional wrestler of all-time, I wouldn't mind the numbers being a little more even. Yeah, Ex is out. Yeah, Jericho's out. But, you know what? I've got Big Dave, who is yet to turn down a fight. And, I've got Bobby Heenan, the greatest mind in wrestling.
ThePWF.com: The numbers, though, Mr. Perfect. They're bound, sooner or later, to get you. Even you.
Mr. Perfect: Even me? You must be new.
