SHANE DOUGLAS PWF Champion Sept. 5, 2007 - Nov. 12, 2007
The entire world seemed to be against PWF Champion John Cena. Raven was demanding a rematch, Shane Douglas was calling for a title shot by virtue of having won the King of the Ring
Tournament, and even Intercontinental Champion Lance Storm -- as well as his manager Johnny Asterix
-- was dropping not-so-subtle hints to Cena that, if a title shot was not in the immediate future, things could go very poorly for the Doctor of Thuganomics in the Recoil match at
La Mala Sombra. Of course, Cena didn't react well to threats, though he clearly had no fear of anyone and seemed willing to take on all comers. In the Recoil match, Storm did in fact turn against Cena, dropping him with a Superkick and leaving the champion high and dry against Shane Douglas. Luckily for Cena, he still managed to come out on top and defeat
The Franchise, but he was left laying again by Storm as the show went off the air.
Over the weeks to follow, Cena remained a clear target by both Storm and Douglas. Though PWF
president Eric Bischoff planned to sign a singles match between Cena and Douglas for
Fall Battle Fields, Christian had other ideas, using his clout from the lawsuit to put together a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match between Cena, Douglas, Storm and ... Steve Austin. All three challengers seemed to resent the others being in the match, but they all realized it was necessary to take any shot they could get. When the match came, Storm made quick work of Cena, forcing him to submit to the Sharpshooter. Stone Cold looked close to finishing
The Franchise off with a Stunner, only to be caught with a Superkick that led to Douglas pinning him. With just Storm and Douglas remaining, it could have gone either way, but Douglas was not to be denied on this night, capping off his amazing year with his first PWF Championship win.
