Only versatile
competitors were able to hold onto the PWF Extreme Championship for long. Each
month, a different type of match was used at the PWF's monthly
pay-per-view event as a means to determine the holder of this title.
Originally, these were eight-men matches, a true test of skill. For
nearly six months, though, there was no Extreme Championship -- PWF
president Eric Bischoff eliminated the title as a response to Raven
winning it. When the title returned in August 2006, the matches for it
were usually four-man bouts, and entry into the title matches became a
prize of its own, as competitors had to win their way in, ensuring the
champion would face only the hungriest contenders. Ironically, Raven
recaptured the title only two months after its resurrection, but
President Bischoff would this time permit the title to remain in existence. Raven's second reign as Extreme Champion would be lengthy and would
only end when he captured the Federation Championship exactly nine months later. He would, due to PWF policy, have to vacate the Extreme title; this would mark
the end of one of professional wrestling's most unique and action-oriented championships as word would make its way down, confirming the fact that Mr. Bischoff
was choosing not to crown a new champion.
