SHANE DOUGLAS
World Tag Team Champion
Jun. 8, 2009 - Jun. 22, 2009

After the shocking revelation that Del Wilkes and Maryse had become the new World Tag Team Champions -- thanks to Steve Austin -- there was a lot of speculation as to how long the two could really last as champions for obvious reasons. The question would never truly be answered because lingering injuries to Wilkes caused the titles to never be defended in the ring ... at least, not until Recoil. As the stipulations revealed, the main event Recoil match would put the World Tag Team Championship on-the-line, so if Wilkes was defeated by anyone during the contest, they would win both halves of the championship. It was the first and only time the World Tag Team Championship was at stake in a Recoil match, and it would be Shane Douglas -- a long-time rival of Wilkes' -- that made good on the opportunity. He hit a Perfect Plunge on The Dark Patriot, winning the titles and becoming a four-time World Tag Team Champion.
