ARENA REPORT

When the superstars of the Professional Wrestling Federation arrive in Monterrey, Mexico, it'll be the PWF's third trip South of the Border. La Mala Sombra, the August tradition, will once again take place inside the confines of beautiful Arena Monterrey -- the only building in the world that is guaranteed to house a PWF event annually.

On August 3, 2005, at Arena Monterrey, who could forget Chris Jericho winning his first of two PWF Extreme Championships in an Eight-Man First Pinfall match (a match-type, quite obviously, of his choosing)? Rob Van Dam was also successful in defending his Television Championship against Carlito. The Masked Men unseated the Robbinsdale Mafia of Mr. Perfect and Rick Rude as PWF Tag Team Champions, thanks in part to the return of the long-retired "SuperStar" Stevie Richards, who just couldn't resist an opportunity to cost the Perfect Team on a grand stage. Riptide found himself in perhaps the biggest match of his life, as he battled PWF Champion Excellence to a hard-fought draw that ended in a double-pinfall.

August 2 of 2006 would once again provide a night of memorable PWF action. Johnny Walker won the vacant Extreme Championship in a Last Man Standing match, defeating three men in Riptide, Diesel, and Sid Vicious who were far larger than he. Edge overcame Steve Austin to win the first singles title of his long career, adding it to his incredible list of tag team accolades. The New Breed exploded before our very eyes when Taz, Raven, and Mike Flynn took part in the first and only "Hard Time" match in PWF history. Raven added a No Holds Barred stipulation to the contest; it would be Flynn, however, that stepped out of the shadows of the more successful Taz and Raven. Excellence seriously injured Chris Benoit in their brutal contest, potentially marking the end of The Crippler's career. In an unforgettable moment, "Dangerous" Del Wilkes came in as a mystery challenger to Mr. Perfect and nearly ended Perfect's reign as PWF Champion. The Perfect Team would hit ringside, however, with Wilkes fighting them all off until Batista was finally able to drop the Dark Patriot, forcing a DQ. Nonetheless, Arena Monterrey had once again been the location of a wrestling legend's return.
